Wal-Mart worker charged with theft An 18-year-old Jackson Wal-Mart employee is accused of allowing customers to walk out of the store without paying for merchandise. According to Jackson Police Investigator Richard Harvey, Brittany Stephens of McIntosh, who was employed as a clerk at the store, was allegedly scanning products for people she knew, so that the sensors on them would not set off the door alarms at the store's exits. "She is accused of allowing those customers to leave without paying for the merchandise," he added. At least $1,500 worth of jewelry, compact discs and electronics items were reported stolen. "We have several other suspects and are following up leads, which may mean more arrests," said Harvey.
Stephens was arrested Oct. 23 and charged with second degree theft of property, which is a Class C felony. She was booked into the Clarke County Jail and later released on $7,500 bond.
