The Thomasville Tigers brought smiles to the crowd at Anderson Field this past Friday, when they blasted the Monroe County Tigers 63-0 in their 2007 Homecoming clash. With the win Thomasville improved to 8-1 on the season and 7-0 in the region.

Leading the charge for the Tigers' stifling defense was Mitchell Cowan with six tackles followed by the trio of James Jones, Jarrell Watters and Kattrell Watters with five stops each.

On offense the rushing leaders for Thomasville were; Delvonte Harris with seven carries for 83 yards and one touchdown and James White with five carries for 56 yards and three touchdowns. Others who contributed to the attack were Roya Campbell with 16 yards and one touchdown on three carries.

In the air Alex Buford was 4-for-9 for 65 yards. On the receiving end of Buford's passes were; Tysean Thompson with two catches for 29 yards, Shed Simmons with one catch for 19 yards and Kenny Sanders with one catch for 17 yards.

Things got underway with Thomasville winning the coin toss and electing to defer to the second half thus giving Monroe County the ball first.

The visiting Tigers were unable to generate anything on their first possession of the game and were forced to punt to Thomasville. On the punt Alex Buford took the ball in at mid field and raced down the sideline for an apparent touchdown. The play however was called back for a block in the back at the Monroe County 36 giving Thomasville the ball at the visitor's 46. Thomasville was on the board in short order from there when James White scampered in from 33 yards out with 9:26 to play in the first quarter. Harrison Lewis added the extra-point and Thomasville led 7-0.

Monroe County was unable to hold onto the ball on both of their next two offensive possessions with Thomasville recovering the fumble at the Monroe County 20 the first time and the 19 the second time. Thomasville was unable to convert the first turnover into points but did capitalize on the second one when James White picked up his second touchdown of the night barreling in from five yards out. Harrison Lewis nailed the extra-point again and Thomasville led 14-0 with 5:09 to play in the first quarter.

The Thomasville defense continued their relentless pursuit of the Monroe County offense on their next possession shutting them down on three plays and forcing a punt. The pressure from the Thomasville rush was so intense the Monroe County punter skied his kick giving Thomasville the ball at the visitors' 22. Delvonte Harris took care of things from there sprinting 22 yards to paydirt. Cameron Dunagan added the extra-point this time and Thomasville led 21-0 with 2:09 yet to play in the first stanza.

Monroe County's turnover problems haunted them again on their next possession when the Thomasville defense was able to pick up another fumble, recovering at the 23 this time. The Thomasville offense took advantage of the short field again with James White plunging in from three yards out with :35 left in the first period. Cameron Dunagan was on the mark with the extra-point and Thomasville moved out to a 28-0 lead.

The boys from Monroeville seemed to finally have a spark of life on their next possession picking up one first down before an Alex Buford interception at the 42 stopped the drive and giving Thomasville the ball back with another short field to work with.

The Thomasville offense took advantage of the situation punching it in with 8:40 to play in the second quarter. Evander Davis got the honors this time darting in from four yards out. Cameron Dunagan boomed the extra-point and the Thomasville lead was 35-0.

With the visiting Tigers pinned deep following the ensuing kickoff, the Thomasville defense got in on the scoring when Brady Sullivan picked off a pass at the 10 yard line and waltzed into the endzone. Harrison Lewis was back for the extra-point attempt and stayed on target giving Thomasville a 42-0 lead with 7:40 to play in the second quarter.

Monroe County's deep back muffed the ball on the following kickoff and Thomasville recovered at the 26 yard line. Thomasville pounded it in again from there with Roya Campbell diving in from one yard out to complete the short drive. Harrison split the uprights again and Thomasville had increased its lead to 49-0 with 6:37 remaining in the second period.

Thomasville did manage to score one more time before intermission. It was the defense getting in on the act again with linebacker Josh Jackson scooping up another Monroe County fumble and rambling 40 yards for the touchdown. Cameron Dunagan tacked on the extra-point and the Thomasville lead was 56-0 with 2:42 to play in the first half.

Despite substituting freely throughout the second half, Thomasville did score one more time before the game ended when Charles Taylor scooted in from 15 yards out with 7:51 to play in the game. Harrison Lewis kicked his fifth extra-point making the final 63-0.

The latest rendition of the rivalry between the Thomasville Tigers and Clarke County Bulldogs, which dates back to 1917, is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 2, at D. F. Anderson Field with the kickoff set for 7 p.m.
