HIV group meeting

The Public Health Area 9 HIV Prevention Community Network Group will have its monthly meeting Friday, Nov. 9 at 11 a.m. at the Monroe County Health Department. Anyone wishing to contribute to stopping the spread of HIV is welcome to attend. For more information, contact Maureen Nichols at 251-275-7108.

Pioneer Day set

The Clarke County Museum's Eighth Annual Pioneer Day is scheduled Saturday, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Clarke County Museum in Grove Hill. Among the featured demonstrations are rope making, shingle splitting, candle dipping, flintknapping, corn shelling, chair caning, campfire cooking, cross-cut sawing, corn shelling, rug hooking, quilting, clothes washing, and butter churning. The restored Mathews Cabin will be open for visitors and costumed re-enactors will be on hand to greet guests. Creek Indian Blue Heron will set up his 1800s hunting camp and Creek War soldiers will host a frontier encampment. There will be live music and storytelling throughout the day. Thanksgiving meals available

Thanksgiving 2007 is almost here! Again this year Mrs. Alice Taylor with a group of volunteers will be remembering the elderly, sick, disabled, shut-ins and homeless of the Coffeeville community. On Saturday, Nov. 10 a Thanksgiving dinner will be served. Alice and those working with her will be serving food from the old Tombigbee Auto Parts building beginning at approximately 9:30 a.m. Lunches may be picked up or they will be delivered. Mt. Zion to host annual

Women's Conference

Mt. Zion #2 Baptist Church will be celebrating their Annual Women's Conference on Sat. Nov. 10, at 10 a.m. The guest speakeer will be Rev. Wanda Robinson (former pastor of Wilson Chapel AME Church). Everyone is invited to attend. Rev. Corey J. Pruitt is the pastor.

Rikard's Mill

The restored sugar cane mill at Rikard's Mill Historical Park will once again produce cane syrup Saturday, Nov. 10 at 9 a.m. The syrup making demonstration will begin when "Mac" the mule is harnessed to the cane mill, which grinds the sugar cane into juice. Visitors can then stay and tour the 1845 water-powered grist mill, stock up on cornmeal and grits and enjoy fresh biscuits with syrup as an afternoon treat. For lunch, local south Alabama barbeque will be available from Clark's Barbeque of Monroeville. Rikard's Mill is located 22 miles north of Monroeville, just north of Beatrice off of Highway 265. Assessment meeting set

The public is invited to give input on issues and services for individuals with substance addiction, mental retardation, or mental illness at a Local Needs Assessment Meeting sponsored by Southwest Alabama Community Mental Health. Information gathered will be used to develop plans for the Alabama Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation's service delivery system. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Monroeville Water Tower Conference Center. For more information, please call 251-575-4203.

CPS Turkey Dinner

The Clarke Prep Library Board will have its annual Thanksgiving dinner Tuesday, Nov. 13. The plates will be $6 each and can be picked up from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call the school at 251-275-8576 to order your plate.

GHMHA Golf tournament

Education retirees meet The Clarke County Education Retirees Association will meet Thursday, Nov. 15 at 11:45 a.m. at the New Faith Baptist Church in Coffeeville. The program will be Legislative/State Office. Hostesses will be Faye Cotten, Janice Cox, Kathleen Dunagan, Grace Dunigan and Lummie Dunigan. DHR board meeting set

The quarterly board meeting will be held Thursday, Nov. 15 at 3:30 p.m. in the Clarke County DHR Board Room located at 22609 Highway 84 in Grove Hill. Lou I. Boykin is the director.

Mobile Renaissance Faire

The sixth annual Mobile Renaissance Faire will be held Saturday, Nov. 17 and Sunday, Nov. 18 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. each day at the Mobile Greater Gulf State Fairgrounds located at 1035 North Cody Road. Admission will be $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. Free admission for infants four and under. Peterman Festival set

The 24th annual Peterman Station Arts and Crafts Festival will be Saturday, Nov. 17 from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. in downtown Peterman, six miles north of Monroeville. The festival is sponsored by the Peterman Historical Society. More than 100 booths filled with a variety of arts and crafts, wooden items, furniture, Christmas decorations, flowers, art, paintings, knives, clothing, cookbooks, etc. just to name a few. Entertainment is planned throughout the day as well as different foods. No admission will be charged. Jackson Christmas parade set

The annual Jackson Christmas Parade will be held Friday, Dec. 7, beginning at 5 p.m. The theme for this years parade will be "Winter Wonderland". There is an entry fee of $25. Participants should pre-register by contacting the Chamber office at 251-246-3251. Line-up for the parade will begin at 3:30 p.m. The parade route will begin at the fourway stop at Commerce and Broad St. and end at Joe M. Gillmore Elementary School. Cash prizes will be given awarded to clubs, non-profit organizations and marching bands.

Fulton Christmas parade set

The Dickinson and Fulton Unity II Community Organization will once again sponsor a Christmas parade Saturday, Nov. 24 at 2 p.m. The parade will line up at 1 p.m. at the Spencer Chapel A.M.E. Church in Fulton and go through downtown. Entry fee will be $5. The theme will be An All Occasion Christmas (it's your choice). Grove Hill Christmas parade

Grove Hill's annual Christmas parade will be Thursday, Dec. 6 at 4 p.m. Line up will be at 3:15 p.m. on Church Street in front of Clarke County High School. The theme for this year's parade is "Christmas Is". If you plan to participate in the parade, please register with the Chamber of Commerce by calling 251-275-4188 or e-mail at grovehillcoc@tds.net.

Coffeeville Christmas Parade The Town of Coffeeville will be hosting its Eight Annual Christmas Parade Sat. Dec. 8, beginning at 10 a.m. The deadline for parade entries is Mon., Dec. 3rd. Businesses are asked for a $20 donation fee and there will be no fee for all non-profit organizations. There will be festivities including singing, arts and crafts, and food at the Masonic Lodge Park area immediately following the parade. The parade route will begin at Coffeeville High School, continuing down Hwy. 69 turning left onto River Street and then onto Hwy. 84 and concluding back at Coffeeville High School. Anyone interested in participating in the parade or the festivities afterwards please call Terri with the Coffeevile Ladies League at 251-276-3831.
