UM Opera Workshop presents 'Amahl and the Night Visitors'

Tickets are on sale now for "Amahl and the Night Visitors," presented by the University of Mobile Opera Workshop on Nov. 16 and 17. The opera is under the direction of Dr. Patrick Jacobs, assistant professor of music and will be accompanied by the UM Orchestra.

The UM production of "Amahl and the Night Visitors" has become a "must-see" for many Gulf Coast area residents as the holiday season begins, according to Jacobs.

The opera tells the story of a young crippled boy named Amahl who meets the Magi as they travel to see the infant Jesus. His life is changed profoundly by the meeting and the circumstances that come of it.

The show will be presented Friday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m and Saturday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m.at College Park Baptist Church at 5860 College Parkway in Mobile, across from the University of Mobile campus.

Tickets for either showing are $15 for adults and $10 for students, and group rates are available. For reservations, call 1-251- 442-2554 or 251-442-2420.

The UM Opera Workshop is part of the university's Center for Performing Arts under the direction of Roger Breland, a member of the Gospel Music Hall of Fame and founder/director for 31 years of the internationally acclaimed contemporary Christian group Truth.
