Hospital Auxiliary hears breast cancer survivor The Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary met on Oct. 24. President Janee Parden called the meeting to order and introduced the speaker for the morning, Jeanette Morgan, R.N., a retired employee of the hospital and the clinic. Mrs. Morgan shared her experiences as a two-time breast cancer survivor. She stated that during her experiences she maintained a positive, fighting attitude and received support from family members and friends. She explained preventative measures that every woman should take. The Auxiliary's bridge benefit held on Oct. 13 raised $1,600. Sherrie McKinley opened her restaurant, the Southern Magnolia, for the benefit and provided two workers. Sharon Reynolds, owner of The Gift Gallery, donated the $500 gift certificate that was won by Diane Jones of Jackson. On Oct. 25 and 26 a jewelry sale was held in the hospital's foyer. Nov. 15 is the date for the annual golf tournament. Two-hundred letters with information and donation requests have been mailed. In addition over 40 letters are in the mail to potential golfers. Sales Ford is sponsoring the hole-in-one prize (a vehicle) and NA Technologies is donating a lap top for a door prize. The annual tree lighting ceremony will be held on Thursday, Dec. 13 at the hospital at 6 p.m. Fliers were distributed announcing Pioneer Day at the Clarke County Historical Museum on Saturday, Nov. 10 and asking for things from the oven for the bake sale. Catherine Neal invited members to attend the Community Thanksgiving program to be held at the Sage Auditorium Sunday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m. Doug Sewell, hospital administrator, explained that computer personnel were continuing to train hospital personnel on the use of the new computer programs. When the hospital's systems are converted, medical information will be stored on site and also at a second location. This is a safety precaution in the event of a destructive tornado, hurricane or fire. He cautioned members about subscribing to any additions or changes in insurance coverage now being solicited on radio and television stations and at door-todoor visits. Some back-up insurance plans to Medicare do not provide the coverage that patients need. The hospital is available to assist anyone with understanding the benefits offered by a supplemental insurance plan. Flu and pneumonia shots are available in the hospital. The next meeting of the auxiliary will be held Wednesday, Nov. 28 at 9 a.m.
After adjournment members remained to stuff envelopes with Christmas Tree Lighting Project letters.
