Atkinson has gone to the dogs
Letter to the Editor

Dear Editor,

We have a problem with dogs running loose in our neighborhood in the Atkinson community north of Thomasville. The dogs have not had their rabies shots and are menacing people, digging in yards and getting into chicken pens. I'm not sure if they are really dangerous but you certainly get that impression.

Adults and children can't walk or ride their bikes or four-wheelers in the neighborhood. The dogs jump on other dogs in the other dogs' own yards and eat their dog food. The problem is bad and getting worse all the time.

The Sheriff's Department, Health Department and other authorities say they can't do anything about the problem. Who can? Who will? I'd like to know.

Marvin Smith
