Bears pound Choctaw 39-12 to close season
Junior quarterback Clint Moseley was 9-of-15 passing for 248 yards with three touchdowns. Patrick Rivers caught two passes for 97 yards and two scores. Detrik Powell led the rushing attack with 67 yards on two carries and two touchdowns. Andrew Williams added four carries and 63 yards. The Bears needed less than two minutes to find the endzone as Moseley hit Rivers with a 58-yard scoring strike in the first frame. Paul Gartman kicked the PAT and Leroy had a 7-0 lead. They added to that lead late in the frame when the connection of Moseley and Rivers hooked-up again. This time the scoring play covered 39-yards. Gartman again made the point after try and the Bears had a 14-0 lead with 2:29 left in the quarter. It did not take Leroy long to hit paydirt in the second quarter as Moseley scored on a 4- yard sneak. The attempt was no good but with 10:56 left in the half the Bears tightened their stranglehold 20-0. Leroy's defense, which forced six punts in the contest, stopped the Choctaw offense cold, getting the ball back for the offense. Moseley dialed up Aerick Davis for a 29-yard TD less than two minutes later. Gartman's kick increased the lead to 27-0. In the third frame the Bears got back-to-back touchdowns from fullback Powell. The first covered 5-yards and the second was from 9-yards out. Both conversions failed and Leroy took a 39-0 lead with 6:07 left in the third quarter. Choctaw added two late scores when Joshua McRea threw a 2-yard pass to Mike Graham and then Ruffin scored on a 10-yard run. Ronnie Reid made one of the kicks, bringing the final score to 39-13. This Friday the third-ranked Bears (9-1, 7-0) will host the Luverne Tigers (5-5) in the round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Game time at Palmer Stadium is 7 p.m.
