Principal's Address It is hard to believe that November is here. With Thanksgiving just around the corner, we know that Christmas comes quickly thereafter. Mid term progress reports went home last week and the busy holiday season is fast approaching. Grove Hill Elementary School is a great place to be anytime, but it is especially great during the holiday seasons. In addition to the regular curriculum, our students are reading seasonal books, using Thanksgiving or autumn prompts for various writing projects. The artful "masterpieces" that adorn our classrooms and hallways are a sight within themselves. October and November are filled with exciting activities. This year's Parenting Day theme was: "Parents the Link to Success." On Oct. 9, we dismissed early and had an afternoon of events including an astounding 242 parent conferences. Many other scheduled events throughout the day included: "Helping Your Child Succeed in School" workshop conducted by Ms. Rita Mathews, GHES Guidance Counselor and a Fluency Lab Demonstration by Mrs. Shawn Hodge. Exhibits for parents to visit and obtain vital information about our students included: Mrs. Lisa White, GHES Reading Coach, Mrs. Alice Moore, School Librarian, Ms. Rita Mathews, Guidance Counselor and Mrs. Jean Daffin, Parent Coordinator for Clarke Co. Board of Education. Our afternoon was a huge success and the faculty and staff continue to appreciate our parents' commitment to their child's education. Thank you parents for sharing our vision for success. On Friday, Nov. 16, we will hold our annual Thanksgiving "Partners in Education" luncheon. We invite our adopters to come and eat lunch at our school. Our students make decorations, and our Child Nutrition staff prepares a delicious meal. This is one way that we can show our appreciation to all those who help make Grove Hill Elementary School such a wonderful place to learn. Walking through the buildings and observing our teachers and students hard at work is such a treat. Several classes have writings or artwork that reflects "things" they are thankful for….As I pause to read a few of the writings, I note that many of our students are thankful or their families and friends. It does my heart good to know that the character of our students revolves around the importance and appreciation of their families and friends. My personal listings or writings would have to include my family, this school, the faculty and staff, our community and of course the students that come to school each day eager and ready to learn.
