Log cabin a big hit at Pioneer Day
The just restored 1830s Mathews log cabin on the grounds of the Clarke County Museum was popular with Pioneer Day visitors Saturday. The cabin was moved to the museum property from south of Grove Hill and restored with funds provided by the Clarke County Historical Society, Mathews descendants and others. Below left, Steve Kennedy, a reenactor enthuasist, portrayed Josiah Mathews, the original owner and welcomed guests as though it was the 1830s. Below right, Kennedy's wife, Ann, portrayed Lucy Mathews and Margaret Marks played Elizabeth Chapman,'s Lucy's sister. The bed in the foreground is a rope bed, commonly used in frontier homes of the time period. See more photos on Page 1B. Photos by Jim Cox
