Oliver

Joseph Andrew Oliver, 73, of Grove Hill died Nov. 9, 2007 at his residence.

He was born Sept. 9, 1934 in Sweet Water. He was a member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church in Grove Hill. He was a probation officer and a warden at Holman Prison in Atmore.

Survivors include his wife, Reba Hicks Oliver, Grove Hill; three sons, Tony Oliver, Mobile, Scott Oliver, Whatley, Jon Oliver, Foley; one daughter, Krista Oliver Bryan, Walnut Hill, Fla.; two stepsons, Dean Hicks, Mobile, Desak Hicks, Coffeeville; two stepdaughters, Debra Tanner, Mobile, Dian Carlson, Omaha, Neb.; four sisters, Peggy Hood, Lucedale, Miss., Shirley Clingan, Sue Gardener, both of Robertsdale, Lou Elders, Libuse, La.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 42 years, Ruth Smith Oliver.

The service was Nov. 12 at 10 a.m. at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home with Ben Davis and Rev. David Curtis officiating. Burial was in the Pittman Memorial Cemetery in Robertsdale.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or to your favorite charity.

Active pallbearers were Al Clingan, Gray Smith, Clarence Waters, Bill Hearn, Donnie Tanner, Eddie Slayton, John Richburg and Bobby Keahey.
