Bulldogs run over Eagles 68-7

Anthony Landrum ran for four TD's and 200 yards as SWHS beat Providence Christian last Friday.
The Purple and Gold Machine that is the Sweet Water Bulldogs blitzed the Eagles of Providence Christian 68-7 in the first round of the Class 1A playoffs last Friday night at Nolan Atkins Stadium.

The Bulldogs scored 20 first quarter points, 27 second quarter points and 21 third quarter points as they raced away with the victory.

Anthony Landrum got things started for Sweet Water as he raced 38-yards for the touchdown. The kick failed and with 6:57 left in the period, the Bulldogs led 6-0.

Less than two minutes later Johnny Lockett extended the lead with a 21-yard run. Scottie Nelson kicked the PAT, making the score 13-0 with 4:46 to go in the first frame.

After the defense made a stop, the offense took over again with time to play in the first quarter. Quarterback Drew Luker tossed a 24-yard scoring strike to Antonio Landrum. Nelson's kick increased the lead to 20-0 with :27 seconds left to play in the quarter.

In the second quarter Sweet Water kept the pressure on as Anthony Landrum scored on a 22-yard run. The kick failed, making it 26-0.

Butch Williams then scored on a 6-yard run. Nelson made the kick, increasing the stranglehold to 33-0 with 5:33 to go before halftime.

Anthony Landrum found daylight and sprinted 53-yards for the next touchdown. The kick from Nelson made the score 40-0 with 2:32 to play before the break.

Providence Christian got on the board with a 12-yard pass. The added PAT made the score 40-7.

The Bulldog offense was not through as Anthony Landrum scored on a 2-yard run on the last play of the half. Nelson made the kick and the Bulldogs added to the lead 47-7.

On the first play of the third quarter Luker hit Heath Hill with a 40-yard scoring pass and after Nelson made the kick, Sweet Water had a 54-7 stranglehold.

Chris Landrum closed the game's scoring with runs of 23- and 40-yards, making the final score 68-7 in favor of the topranked Bulldogs.

Sweet Water's offense churned out 514 yards of total offense while the defense held the Eagles to just 154 yards.

Anthony Landrum led all rushers with 200 yards on 11 carries and four scores.

Luker was 4-of-5 passing for 94 yards and two scores.

Delano Brewer led the defense with 16 tackles and an interception. Devin Wolf added 16 stops. Drew Luker had 13 tackles.

This Friday the Bulldogs (10-0) take to the road as they travel to Montgomery to play St. Jude in the second round of the playoffs.

St. Jude beat McIntosh 30-14 last week in the first round.

Game time is 7 p.m.
