Man charged with using vehicle as a deadly weapon
By Evan Carden Special to The Democrat

A domestic dispute led a Jackson man to use the automobile in which he was a passenger as a deadly weapon.

Warrants were issued for James Lamark Jackson, Monday, Nov. 19, charging him with three counts of first degree assault after his actions sent three people to the hospital, Sunday, Nov. 18, around 9:59 p.m.

According to Jackson Police reports, Jackson was riding in the passenger side front seat of a 2004 Grand Am, driven by Kanikia Jordan, 22, also of Jackson. The automobile was southbound on Commerce Street. Jackson and Jordan were reportedly having a domestic dispute and Jackson is accused of holding a gun on Jordan, forcing her to drive while the two argued. He allegedly grabbed the steering wheel of the vehicle causing it to veer into the left-hand lane into the path of a 1988 Chevrolet Blazer driven by Erskey L. Crowell, 26, of Jackson, causing the vehicles to collide.

Crowell, Jordan and Makela Mose, a passenger in the vehicle driven by Jordan, all suffered injuries. They were transported to Jackson Medical Center, where they were treated and released.

Jackson fled the scene of the crash before Jackson Police arrived on the scene.

"It's amazing no one was seriously injured as a result of his (Jackson's) actions," said Police Chief Charles Burge, Monday. "This could have turned out a lot worse."

The chief added that Jordan and Jackson have had a history of domestic problems.
