Gaineswood, other historic homes hosting Christmas activities

Gaineswood and two other publicly owned historic houses in Demopolis will host "Christmas in the Canebreak 2007" Thursday, Nov. 29 from 5:30 until 8 p.m.

Gaineswood, along with Bluff Hall and Lyon Hall, will be candlelit and decorated period-style in natural greenery and fruit. Each house will offer various forms of holiday musical entertainment and refreshments.

Admission to each of the three historic houses is $3 per person, with ages 12 and under admitted at $1 per person. Highlighting activities at Gaineswood will be the music of the First Baptist Church Handbell Choir directed by Dr. Ed Rush, and vocalist Laura Clements. The Handbell Choir performs at 5:30, 6:30 and at 7:30 pm. Clements will perform at 6 pm and again at 7pm. Clements and the Handbell Choir will perform a mixture of hymnals and secular Christmas songs.

Those who cannot make it to the Candlelight Evening are encouraged to visit Saturday, December 1, from 1 - 4 p.m., when the mansion hosts open house tours.

For more information contact Gaineswood at 334-289-4846.
