Grove Hill council names park ballfield for John H. Becton
By Kathryn F. Pickard News Reporter

The Grove Hill Town Council voted in favor of changing the name of the First Bank of Grove Hill ballfield to the John H. Becton Field. Former mayor and council member S.P. Hudson suggested the change honoring the deceased banker during Monday's town council meeting.

"John Becton was an important part of developing the city park. He asked if the Bank of Grove Hill could build a field. The cost of the field was $7,000 and John was directly responsible for that $7,000," Hudson said. Becton was vice president and then president of the local bank before his retirement. He died earlier this year.

The council voted in favor of renaming the field the John H. Becton Field, provided the bank did not oppose the name change.
