Breaking ground for new senior center

Ground was broken for the new Grove Hill. senior citizen activity center last Thursday, at the corner of Jackson and Clark Streets. The project was bid at $495,000, nearly twice the $250,000 grant the town received but town officials approved it, saying they would find the additional funds somewhere. From left are Mary Pendleton, council member Pat McGraw, council member Cynthia Jackson, council member Terry Stifflemire, Mayor Lamar Hudson, John Clyde Riggs of the Alabama Tombigbee Regional Commission, council member Levon Hicks and William Jackson. ATRC administers the Area Agency on Aging program that provides meals and other needs for senior citizens.
