Turnovers slow down SWHS in 52-12 victory over St. Jude
In the game, the Bulldog offense racked up 524 total yards once it was able to quit stopping itself with turnovers while the defense was able to hold a very talented and explosive Pirate offense to only 284 total yards. Leading the way for the Bulldog rushing game which accumulated 492 yards in the game was Anthony Landrum, who rushed for 273 yards and five touchdowns on 30 carries. Damaraquis Williams was next with 113 yards and one touchdown on only four carries. Over on defense Delano Brewer led the charge for the Bulldogs with 10 tackles followed by Devin Wolf with nine. Tyrice Lockett and Drew Luker were next with eight tackles each. St. Jude scored first on a 70-yard run with 9:52 to play in the period. The extra-point try was no good but the Pirates led 6-0. The Bulldogs answered later in the quarter driving 48 yards for the score. A. Landrum picked up the touchdown with 3:28 remaining in the quarter when he blasted in from 2-yards out. Scottie Nelson added the extra-point and the Bulldogs had taken a 7-6 lead that they would take with them to the halftime locker room. In the second half Landrum got things rolling as the rambled 6- yards to pay dirt on Sweet Water's second play from scrimmage in the second half. Nelson's extrapoint attempt was blocked but the Bulldog lead had been increased to 13-6 with 11:01 remaining in the quarter. Williams was next to get in on the fun racing 70-yards for a touchdown on the first play of the Bulldogs' next possession. Nelson's extra-point was off the mark again but the Bulldog lead stood at 19-6 with 7:20 remaining in the third quarter. St. Jude added another TD later in the frame. The extra-point attempt was no good but the Bulldog lead had been cut to 19-12 with 4:21 remaining on the third quarter clock. Sweet Water then scored 33 unanswered points to blow the game wide open. Landrum had a 2-yard score. He followed that with a 45-yard trot. Neson made one of the two PATs to make the score 32-12. The defense grabbed the spotlight next when Antonio Landrum picked off a Pirate aerial and took it back 10-yards for a touchdown. Nelson drilled the extra-point and the Sweet Water lead had climbed to 39-12 with 7:58 still remaining in the period. A fumble recovery by Tyrice Lockett put the Bulldog offense back in business a few seconds later. Anthony Landrum waltzed in from 10-yards out. Nelson tacked on the extra-point and with 6:58 to go in the game the Bulldogs were on top 46-12. Jeremy Landrum that got the final points of the night for the Bulldogs when he raced 70-yards for a touchdown with 4:23 remaining before the final whistle. His score was set up by a Drew Luker interception that got the ball back for the Bulldog offense. Nelson's extra-point try missed the mark leaving the final at 52-12. With the win the Bulldogs move to 11-0 on the season and will be matched up with the 11-1 Wadley Bulldogs this week. Wadley defeated the Brantley Bulldogs 21-20 last week.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Nolan Atkins Stadium.
