Woman dies from heart attack at local grocery
By Kathryn F. Pickard News Reporter

A Grove Hill woman died Wednesday night, the day before Thanksgiving, in the Grove Hill Food Tiger just after entering the store to buy groceries.

According to store employee Michelle Powell, Jannie Bell McCoy Rearden, 55, came in to the grocery store about 5:30, got a grocery cart and took about five steps before she collapsed.

Employee Sharon McDole called the manager, Debra Nichols, for help and Nichols called Clarke County 911. In the meantime Dr. Ralph Neal and several nurses had come into the store and began trying to revive Rearden.

She was transported to Grove Hill Memorial Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

She was reported to have had heart problems and it is believed she had a heart attack.

She was a native of Dickinson and is survived by her husband, William C. Rearden of Grove Hill, two daughters, Sandra Harvell of Brewton and Virginia Loree Rearden of Boston, Mass., as well as other family members.
