'Christmas on the River' continues through Dec. 1 in Demopolis.

The annual "Christmas on the River" festival features events through Saturday in Demopolis.

"Christmas in the Canebrake" will be held on Thursday and will feature Gaineswood, Bluff Hall and Lyon Hall decked out in their Christmas best. The homes will be open for candlelight tours and will share entertainment and refreshments beginning at 5:30 p.m. Admission is $3 per house for adults and $1 for children under 12.

Friday will feature two events. There will be an open house held at Robertson Bank from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. That night, the Alabama State Championship BBQ cook-off will be held at the City Landing beginning at 5 p.m.

On the first Saturday in December there are a number of events that will entice all interests. The day begins with the Fair in the Square where the booths open at 7:30 a.m. and remain open until 4 p.m. At 8:00 a.m. that morning, registration begins for the Jingle Bell Run in front of City Hall. The entry fee is $15.

The Children's Day Parade will be held at 11:30 a.m. and will feature many new floats this year and will include a number of bands to entertain the crowd.

The big finale begins at 6:30 with the Nautical Parade set to a backdrop of fireworks all viewed from the banks of the Tombigbee River.
