Library to dedicate addition

The dedication of the O'Melia Family Room at the Grove Hill Public Library will be held Sunday, Dec. 9 from 2:30 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. The public is invited.

Christmas candlelight service

The fourth annual blessings of Christmas candlelight services will be held Sunday, Dec. 9 at 4 p.m. at Lower Peach Tree United Methodist Church. For more information call Thomas Hale at 334-627-3888.

Blood drive at local hospital

There will be a blood drive Tuesday, Dec. 11 from 12 p.m. until 6 p.m. in the Bloodmobile at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital. Free t-shirts will be given to all donors and register to win a bow on Dec. 15.

Grief counselors to meet

Coping with Grief During the Holidays lecture will be

Wednesday, Dec. 12 at 11 a.m. at the Church of God In Christ. Dr. James Avery will be the presenter. All pastors, teachers and church leaders are especially invited to attend. Refreshments will be provided. For more information call 877-208-4113. Rev. Jimmy Allen is the pastor.

Hospital Tree Lighting

Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary's Tree Lighting will be held Thursday, Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. at the hospital. Refreshments will be served in the hospital's lobby after the program. As always, a list of Honorees and Memorials will be displayed at the hospital for viewing. Forms for submitting names for a tree light can be found in The Clarke County Democrat and at the hospital.

HIV Prevention Group meets

The December meeting of the Public Health Area 9 HIV Prevention Community Network Group will take place

Friday, Dec. 14 at 11 a.m. in the Monroe County Health Department in Monroeville. This luncheon meeting is open to anyone wishing to help in the fight against HIV. Bring a covered dish and join in.

SWAIA annual banquet

Southwest Alabama Improvement Association, (SWAIA) announces its support of the Clarke County Chapter-National Association for the Advancement of Colored Peoples (NAACP) seventh annual banquet on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. at the Fulton Head Start Building. SWAIA is pledging its support in honor of Dr. Edward Vaugh, state president, NAACP, Thedford Rowser-Bey, State Chairperson (NAACP) for Black Land Lost and Real Estate Issues, as well as Mrs. Edna Thornton, age 102 and Rosa V. Thornton, age 83 and Charlie (Jackie) Kimbrough, land issues in the First Circuit Court Judicial District (Washington, Clarke and Choctaw County). The guest speaker will be Elder Jimmy Allen, pastor of the Church of God in Christ, Thomasville. The cost of this banquet is $25 per person.
