A suspect has been arrested in a hit-and-run accident Nov. 29 in Fulton. A log truck hit the rear end of a Hyundai sport utility vehicle.

The accident occurred at approximately 3:05 p.m. at the Fulton Junction, the intersection of Highway 178 and Highway 43, said Fulton Police Chief Larry Hicks.

The driver of the Hyundai was Nephiteri Sanders, 27, of Thomasville, and she suffered head injuries. A child passenger was not injured, Hicks said.

Sanders, who is the daughter of Bishop Edgar Young of Grove Hill, was transferred by Jets Ambulance to Southwest Alabama Medical Center in Thomasville.

The White-GMC log truck left the scene. An investigation ensued including Hicks, investigator Don Lolley of the District Attorney's office, and officers of the Clarke County and Marengo County Sheriff's Departments. Law enforcement had to investigate six other trucks before they found the right one, Hicks said.

Evidence from the scene led authorities to the suspected truck in Putnam.

The driver of the log truck, Earl Orlando Cade, 38, of the Shady Grove community in Choctaw County, was arrested Sunday morning. He was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and failing to render aid. Cade had a working cell phone at the time of the accident and could have called in for aid to the driver.

The Hyundai was hit in the rear end Nov. 29 by a log truck at Fulton Junction. The log truck left the scene.
Officials also have other warrants on Cade, Hicks said, and he had been involved in an earlier hit-and-run. "He hasn't had a driver's license since 1991," the police chief said.

Cade worked for his father, Willie Cade, who owns Orlando Trucking.
