Suspect caught in theft of trailers, four-wheeler
From Staff Reports

This four-wheeler and trailers were recovered by the Clarke County Sheriff's Department.
A suspect has been arrested in the theft of three utility trailers and a four-wheeler.

One utility trailer was stolen from Harvey Martin's residence on Allen Walker Road, said Ron Baggette, chief investigator with the Clarke County Sheriff's Department.

In addition, Bobby Powell and Robert Sheffield each had a utility trailer stolen from Powell's land on Allen Walker Road close to Martin's residence.

During the investigation it was determined that Adam Wesley Tolbert, 24, of Grove Hill, was a suspect in the thefts and was questioned and released on Nov. 27, Baggette said. However, the investigator received a report Nov. 29 from a couple that lives off the Walker Road. They were letting Tolbert stay at their residence.

The wife's wallet had been taken while they were away, and Tolbert was the only one there.

Tolbert was arrested Nov. 29 and later confessed to stealing the three trailers, and a fourwheeler Nov. 28 from Scott Harvell's residence in Grove Hill. The suspect stated that he took the trailers and ATV to McIntosh, Ala. and sold them to individuals there, the investigator said.

Baggette was aided in the investigation by Sheriff Bobby Moore and Chief Deputy Vergil Chapman. Robert Fore along with a Washington County deputy and a probation officer from Washington County located all three trailers and the Yamaha ATV in McIntosh from several individuals. All were recovered and returned to the owners.

Also assisting was Chief Barnett of the McIntosh Police Department.

Tolbert was charged with three counts of theft of property, second degree, and theft of property, first degree.

More charges are possibly pending, Baggette said.
