It's great to be a Clarke Co. Bulldog! This has been an outstanding month at Clarke County High School. We have made history with our football team, we have been studying to close the gap on the graduation exam, we have donated valuable time and money for those less fortunate, and the time has finally come to move into our new facility. In case you have been living in a hole the past few weeks, you already know about the astonishing feat the CCHS football team has accomplished - a perfect 10-0 regular season record, the regional title, and a trip to the third round of playoffs. This group of young men is the first team to ever go 10-0 at CCHS, obviously the best team the school has ever produced. Although the boys fell in Calera, the entire town is overwhelmed with pride. Whether the team and coaches know it or not, they united our school. There is now at least one thing that unites the student body, faculty and staff at CCHS, and that is everyone here is proud to be a Clarke County Bulldog. The team has nothing to be shamed of. They pulled off a record setting season and also united an entire town. In the midst of all of the football phenomenon, students have vigorously been preparing for the graduation exam, which is being administered this week. The first semester of this year is coming to a close, and that means final exams are right around the corner. Exams will be administered the week of Dec. 17, and school will be out for the Christmas holidays beginning Dec. 21, and the second semester will begin Jan. 8. With the holiday season upon us, several clubs have been active in raising money for those less fortunate. The Future Business Leaders of America hosted a week long campaign of raising money for the March of Dimes, an organization for premature birth research. The Annual Staff recently raffled a Thanksgiving meal to a family. Classes are currently competing in a food drive. The first block class who donates the most canned goods to the area food bank, will receive a prize. Several clubs have been raising money for the Salvation Army. DECA has been selling popcorn, the Spanish Club held a bake sale, the Beta Club has been selling dill pickles, SGA has been taking up donations and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes sponsored a "Get Out of Uniform Day" for a dollar. All of the money raised by these five clubs is going straight to the Salvation Army. Everyone at CCHS has donated something to a good cause this month, and that is something the student body should be proud of.
The time has finally come to pack up and move into our new building - a long awaited transition! The expected moving date is Dec. 19. And when next semester rolls around, we will be settled into our brand-new facility, marking the end of a great first semester at CCHS.
