DECA travels to Texas conference
By Jake Paul Special to The Democrat

The CCHS and JHS chapters of DECA attended conference in San Antonio, Texas.
DECA recently attended the Southern Region Leadership Conference in San Antonio, Texas Nov. 16-19.

Sponsor Rebecca Bradford traveled with eight young ladies representing Clarke County High School. Students who attended include Jasmine Robinson, Brittney Sheffield, Miranda Parnell, Brittney Dunson, Vernetta King, Tiffany Phillips, Brittany Gates and Jessica Guy.

Jackson High School delegates also attended the conference. Rayferl Love, Brandon Law, Brandon Pugh and Jeremy Jackson attended along with JHS sponsor Betty Hentschel.

The students had the opportunity to experience exciting workshops and sessions. The group was also able to expand their leadership skills, all while exploring the beautiful city of San Antonio.

They strolled through the famous River Walk, took a tour of the historical Alamo, cheered at the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets basketball game, and visited Shamu at Sea World.

The delegates heard from motivational speaker Josh Sundquist, who used a refreshing blend of energy and humor to inspire the DECA delegates. He shared stories about losing his leg to cancer, ski racing in the Paralympics, and playing practical jokes with his artificial leg to give practical motivation for overcoming adversity and for goal setting.

He is also a founding member of the Youth Navigators Roundtable, a panel of America's top motivational speakers for schools and youth.

The girls enjoyed their trip and hope to better the CCHS chapter of DECA with the new things they learned in San Antonio.
