FBLA registers 58 student voters
By Jake Paul Special to The Democrat

The Clarke County High School chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America recently held a student voter registration in the school's library. Fifty-eight students filled out forms to be eligible to vote in the most important election our country has faced in several years.

One of the most powerful rights we hold is the ability to rock the vote. Our voices are the strongest influence on change and it is important that we flex that verbal muscle. From city and county issues to state and federal, it is crucial that we exert our power as much as we can. The more people who vote and become active, the stronger the statement we make - and that was the goal FBLA set and accomplished.

It is very important that we take this upcoming election seriously. We have several candidates to choose from, and with this wide array of hopefuls, a little research about these candidates would not hurt. What I am trying to say is, do not vote for Hillary Clinton just because she is a woman, vote for her because you agree with her ideas. Overlook that Barack Obama is an African American man, take a closer look into his policies and plans, then make a decision. Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney are not the classic conservative Republicans, but they are the front runners for the GOP nomination. My point is, take a second look at these candidates. Look over their plans for our country, watch debates, turn on CNN and Fox News every once in a while, it won't kill you.

These 46 seniors and 12 juniors signed up to not only vote, they signed up to help change our world - hopefully for the better.
