Bumpers

Henry Peter Bumpers, 79, of Chicago, Ill. died Nov. 15, 2007.

He was born Oct. 22, 1928. He was a former resident of the Winn community of Jackson, Los Angeles, Calif. and Germany. He was a faithful member of Trinity United Church of Christ and sang in the Men's Chorus.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Curtis (Mose) and Sarah Parker Bumpers, a brother, Robert Lee Bumpers Sr., and five sisters, Marie Pugh, Annie B. Pugh, Willie Mae Hill, Rosie B. Chapman and Arcola Young.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Bumpers; seven children, Henry (Monika) Bumpers, Tigard, Oregon, Kent (Charlotte) Bumpers, Chicago, Ill., Jessie Roper, Grove Hill, Karen Thomas, Inglewood, Calif., Tina (Bryant) Walker, Chicago, Ill., Sharon (Edward) Jamison, Chicago Heights, Ill., Sandra (Sidney) Foulks, Tinley Park, Ill.; one brother, R.J. (Delia Mae) Bumpers, Jackson; one sister, Mertis Pugh, Aberdeen, Maryland; 10 grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and other relatives and friends.

The service was Nov. 21 at Trinity United Methodist Church of Christ with Rev. Dr. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr. officiating. Gardner Funeral Home of Chicago, Ill. directed.

Active pallbearers were Sheldon McAfee, Donald Howze Jr., Stuart McAfee, Archie Young, Jason Humphrey and Bryant Walker.

Honorary pallbearers were the Men's Chorus, Edward Jamison, R.J. Bumpers, Sidney Foulks, Harvis Chapman, Rufus Aechible and Morris Bettis.
