Two area teams vying for AHSAA state crowns

The Leroy Bears and the Sweet Water Bulldogs will be looking to repeat as state champions as they head to Birmingham for the AHSAA Super Six football finals.

Sweet Water (13-0) gets things started Thursday (today) when they meet Talladega County- Central at 3 p.m.

The Bears (13-1) take on topranked Fyfee (14-0) in the Class 2A title game on Friday at 3 p.m.

The only other team looking to repeat is Prattville in Class 6A. The Lions (14-0) face Spain Park (13-1), who upset Buddy Anderson's Vestavia Hills team 17-13 last Friday night.

For the first time in nine years a team from the Mobile area will be playing in the Class 5A game as St. Paul's (13-1) faces top-ranked Briarwood (14-0).

Central-Tuscaloosa (14-0), fresh off their upset win over Thomasville, will meet Deshler (12-2) in the Class 4A game at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Clay County (14-0) looks to win the Class 3A title as they face Cordova (14-0). Clay County had won the Class 2A title in 2005, but lost in the 3A finals last year to Pike County.

Tickets are $10 for each game at Legion Field.

Plus the games have been televised on local channel UPN 44 for the folks not able to make the trip to the Magic City.
