Frowner

Clayton Gray Frowner, 63, a lifelong resident of the Manila community of Jackson died Dec. 4, 2007 at his sister's home in Alma.

He was born Jan. 25, 1944 to the late Rev. Ellis C. and Mary Ann Frowner. He was a member of St. Matthew Baptist Church where he served faithfully as Sunday school teacher, church treasurer and deacon. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army on Nov. 8, 1966. While serving our country, he received the National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal.

He was president of the Progressive Club of the Alma, Manila and Gainestown communities. He served as president of the Honey Bees Community Club, president of the Sunday school annual and secretary of the Manila Hunting Club of which he helped to organize. He served as Assistant Fire Chief and treasurer of the Alma Fire Department. He was a member of White Hall Lodge #951 F&AM of Alabama where he served as senior warden for many years. He was also a member of St. Peter Lodge #629, the Royal Arch. He served as Worthy Patron of L.D. Williams Pride Chapter #730 OES. He served as Clarke County Commissioner, District 4 from Jan. 18, 1993 until Nov. 13, 2000.

Survivors include one son, Maple L. Hunt, Gainestown; three sisters, Edna Williams, Alma, Mary Lee Kirksey, South Holland, Ill., Novetter B. Files, Glenwood, Ill.; seven brothers, Rev. Webster (Beverly) Frowner, Kansas City, Kansas, Jessie Frowner, Chicago, Ill., John Max (Alice) Frowner, Rev. Henry (Martha) Frowner, all of Manila, David (Aretha) Frowner, Phillip (Annie) Frowner, Bennie Frowner, all of Alma. The service was Dec. 8 at p.m. at St. Matthew #1 Baptist Church. The Masonic ceremony was performed. Military services were held at graveside. Burial was in the Frowner Cemetery in Manila. Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson directed.
