The Leroy Bears overcame a feisty Fyffe Red Devils' football team, winning 25- 20, to claim their second straight Class 2A state title at Legion Field this past Friday afternoon.

Two Bears set several records in the game with quarterback Clint Moseley, the game's MVP, setting new marks in completions (16), attempts (27), yards (243) and TD passes (3). Patrick Rivers set the new record in receptions (7) and TD catches (3).

The game's first scoring actually came with a feel good story as Fyffe kicker Norbert Blum connected on a 30-yard field goal with 11:11 to play in the second quarter, giving his team a 3-0 lead.

It was Blum's first field goal of the entire season and it was the first time his parents, who flew in from Germany, had a chance to see him play.

The Bears answered on the ensuing drive as they marched 67 yards in 13 plays to hit paydirt.

Facing a fourth-and-eight, Moseley tossed a 10-yard completion to Johnny Williams to keep the drive alive.

Mosley found Rivers on a 5-yard scoring pass to cap the drive.

Paul Gartman made the kick and the Bears had a 7-3 lead with 7:50 left in the half.

The Red Devils, running their potent double-wing offense, came right back as QB Kyle Greeson scored on a 17-yard scamper. Blum's kick gave Fyffe a 10-7 lead with 1:32 to go before the break.

In the third quarter Fyffe added to their lead when they took the opening possession and drove down to score.

Greeson found a crease and scored on a 21-yard sprint with 6:08 to go in the third quarter. Blum made good on the attempt and the Red Devils took a 17-7 lead.

Averaging just under seven yards a play, Leroy fought their way right back as they moved within a TD on the ensuing possession.

Moseley flipped a deep out pass to Rivers, good enough for a 28-yard score. The attempt was blocked, but the Bears had cut the lead to 17-13 with 4:22 to play in the frame.

On the very first play of the fourth quarter Blum was called on for another field goal attempt. The Germanexchange student drilled a record-setting 43-yard kick, increasing the Red Devil lead to 20-13.

Again Leroy answered the bell as Detrick Powell bulled his way in from 1- yard out to cap a 39-yard drive.

Gartman's kick was again blocked, leaving the Bears trailing 20-19 with 9:55 left in the game.

Finally the Leroy defense found a way to slow down the Fyffe offense and Parker Whitten's punt attempt only traveled 12-yards, giving the Bears the ball at midfield.

On the second play Moseley dialed up Rivers for a 32-yard TD pass.

The kick failed, but the Bears had their first lead of the game 25-20 with 7:14 left in the game.

Fyffe was unable to get anything going the rest of the game and Leroy won 25- 20.

Moseley paced the offense with 243 yards passing and 44 yards rushing. Powell added 28 yards rushing.

Rivers caught seven passes for 120 yards and three scores. Stephen Scoggins caught four passes for 83 yards.

Grant Brown led the Leroy defense with 14 tackles. Chris Weaver added nine stops. Josh Trotter, Anthony Payne and Josh Ervin each had seven tackles.

Leroy finish the season with a 14-1 championship record.
