Medicare prescripton drug program

The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) Healthcare Committee would like to remind Medicare Recipients, as well as, caregiver(s) that Medicare Specialist(s) will be available to enroll qualified individuals in the 2008 Medicare Prescription Drug Program on Saturday, Dec. 22 from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the western room of Jackson Steakhouse. The special consultation session is the last date for new enrollment or making changes in existing coverage with benefits being effective Jan. 1. The deadline for 2008 enrollment or changes is Dec. 31, however benefits will not be effective until Feb. 1, 2008. Therefore, don't wait to act on this prescription drug benefit. Medicare recipients 65 years of age or greater or less than 65 years of age with disability benefits under Medicare are qualified for this important and valuable benefit. AseraCare Hospice memorial tree

The community is invited to take part in decorating a holiday memorial tree in the office of AseraCare Hospice, at 4115 College Avenue in the Dollar General Shopping Center near Wal-Mart. Those wishing to participate may bring an ornament with the person's name on it they wish to remember. Paper ornaments will be supplied free of charge for participants to write the name of their loved one, along with a personal message. The tree, donated by Quincey Baros of Southern Lawn and Garden will be on display through Christmas. New Year's Eve singing

There will be a New Year's Eve singing at Good Hope Baptist Church Monday, Dec. 31 at 6 p.m. featuring the Revelators, The Kelleys and Mallory Broadus.

Deadline on taxes nears

Clarke County Revenue Commissioner Chris Beverly reminds property owners that Dec. 31, 2007 is the deadline to pay ad valorem taxes. He points out that paying your taxes by mail is the best way to avoid lines in the courthouse. All payments by mail received with a postmark on or before Dec. 31 will not be charged late penalities. December 31, 2007 is also the deadline for making new applications for homestead exemptions and current use and to file returns for business personal property.

Mobile Symphony Youth

concert slated

The Mobile Symphony Youth Orchestra will give a concert Sunday, Jan. 13 at 2:30 p.m. at the Sage Auditorium at Clarke County High School. This group of 40 young people is very accomplished and professional. Everyone is invited to attend. The event is organized by the Community Study Club. For more information call 251-275-4755.

Free holiday cookbooks

The annual Holiday Cookbook is now available at The Clarke County Extension Office at the Clarke County Courthouse. It's free so go by there and pick one up. For more information call the Extension office at 251-275-3121.

Meetings for Chapter #32

Clarke County Chapter #32 for the Day have relocated to the fire station in Gosport. Meetings will be every second Saturday, Jan. 12 at 2 p.m. Commander Archie Robinson.
