Grove Hill council purchases martin houses to help eliminate mosquitoes The Grove Hill Town Council voted to purchase six martin houses at $574 per set. Each set includes the house, pole and winch to lower and raise the house so it can be cleaned out. Martins are supposed to help eliminate mosquitoes. The suggested placements for the houses include S.P. Hudson Park, the water towers on Broad Street and Cobb Street, Town Hall and possibly the pocket park in the downtown area or the senior center. Business licenses Two changes to the business license ordinances were approved. The original ordinance stated that a professional and/or the firm could purchase a business license. It has been changed so that each individual professional employed with the firm must purchase their own business license. The maximum amount of a business license under schedule A of the new ordinance was stated at $600. The amount agreed upon by council members was $400, so the change to the ordinance was approved. Housing development Bill Schrimsher of Trustmark Construction was at the council meeting to discuss the new housing development on Carter Drive. The company plans to construct 42, three and four bedroom rental homes on 15 acres. Mayor Lamar Hudson and council members recommended Schrimsher meet with the town's engineer Paul Darnell and the planning commission before they approved the building permit next month. Town holidays
Employees with the Town of Grove Hill will be off Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, Dec. 24 and 25 and New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Town Hall will be closed on those days.
