Principal's Address

It is the holiday season and our school is filled with the holiday spirit. We have approximately 475 students and 57 faculty and staff members anxiously awaiting the holidays.

Stories are being read and written; lists are being made; letters compiled and ornaments created. The teachers work extremely hard to make this a fun, yet educational time of year.

Many reading and writing skills are being reviewed or reinforced through holiday letters and stories. Several grade levels are using the "Christmas Around the World" theme as a means of teaching Social Studies skills. World customs, traditions, map skills, and literature are a focus for such units.

We are very proud of Mrs. Rush and the Grove Hill Elementary Singers for their recent performance during our Holiday Concert. If you've never heard them sing, you've missed a great treat. It is always amazing to hear the beautiful songs that children sing, but it is especially sweet to hear children sing our old time favorite Christmas songs.

As I walk through the buildings and look at the beautifully created bulletin boards, Christmas trees and art projects, I once again, am amazed at the faculty and staff of this school. The effort that it takes to enrich the curriculum with holiday lessons and activities is totally awesome.

Many hours of planning, preparation and organization goes into teaching our students. Their continued commitment to their profession and the students at GHES is commendable. For this, I am especially grateful. This time of year, teachers bring a new meaning to our motto: Together we can Light the Future and Change the World. They truly brighten the lives of many children.

I hope that all of our students, faculty, staff and community have a safe and joyous holiday season. Take time to enjoy and treasure the time spent with families for our children are "only little for a little while".

Happy Holidays!
