Tax deadline nears

Clarke County Revenue Commissioner Chris Beverly reminds property owners that ad valorem taxes are due by Dec. 31.

The Clarke County Courthouse will be closed Monday, Dec. 31 and Tuesday, Jan. 1 so Friday, Dec. 28 is the last day to pay taxes in person at the revenue commissioner's office. However, Beverly suggests that paying taxes by mail may avoid long lines at his office and all payments received through the mail and postmarked Dec. 31 or earlier will not be penalized, regardless of when they are received.

Dec. 31 is also the deadline for making new applications for homestead exemptions and current use and to file returns for business personal property.
