Suspect arrested for check forgery
From Staff Reports

Ron Bagette, chief investigator with the Clarke County Sheriff's Department was working Christmas Day in Thomasville.

"I noticed a subject in a burgundy Ford Explorer that looked a lot like a subject that we had warrants on," he said. "I noticed the vehicle go into Cuzz's (Convenience Store on Highway 43), and the subject got out to get gas.

" I was able to confirm him as Billy Davis Cunningham who was wanted for forgery charges all over the county."

Cunningham has passed checks in several locations in Clarke County using his own account and then using stolen checks from other people's accounts.

"He is also wanted in Wilcox, Monroe, and Washington Counties for the same thing." Baggette said. The suspect was searched, and two baggy's with a white powder and pills were found along with his and his brother's identification.

Cunningham was also in possession of two Regions Bank counter checks that were filled out and apparently had forged signatures on them.

When approached and asked by Thomasville Officer Calvin Taite who he was, the suspect stated that he was Eddie Cunningham, which is his brother's name. He also give his brother's Social Security number to the officer, Baggette said.

"I then approached Billy and give a positive identification that this was Billy Cunningham," the investigator said.

Cunningham was arrested and was charged with 21 counts of NWNI, three counts of possession of forged instrument, possession of a controlled substance, and giving a false name to officers.

Assisting with the arrest was Officer Taite, Sgt. Adam Gunter, and other officers with Thomasville Police Department.
