New, improved CT scanner to be purchased by Grove Hill hospital The Grove Hill Memorial Hospital plans to purchase a 16-slice CT or CAT (computed axial tomography) machine. Doug Sewell, hospital administrator, told the Board of Directors Dec. 20 that prices had reduced for CTA machines to the point that that the hospital could purchase a more advanced machine. The new machine would satisfy the needs of the hospital for approximately 10 years, he said. A proposal for the machine will likely be presented at the January board meeting. The facility's current CT scanner is currently not working after having to be repaired last week, Sewell said. In other action from the board meeting, Tina Syphrit, clinic administrator, reported that visits to the Fulton and Grove Hill medical clinics in November were down, but visits to the Coffeeville clinic were up slightly. Sewell said he was concerned with the decline in out-patient visits. • There will not be a price increase for Blue Cross insurance for employees, Sewell said. In addition, the liability insurance for the hospital had only a minimal increase ($2,000), and the workman's compensation insurance is decreasing by $10,000. •Approximately $4,200 was made by the auxiliary from memorials and honorariums placed on the hospital Christmas tree, and 250 tickets were sold for a raffle for a laptop computer.
The auxiliary has donated $10,000 for baby warmers.
