Year in Review
Two churches in the Morvin area were burglarized over a September weekend. Buxton Chapel and Rockpoint Baptist Church were broken into and air conditioning units were stolen. Boise Cascade sold its papermaking assets to Aldabra 2 Acquistion Co. The new company planned to change its name to Boise Paper Company and to take the company public on the stock market. Alabama House of Representatives Speaker Seth Hammett, D-Andalusia, spoke to a group in Grove Hill at the invitation of State Rep.Marc Keahey, D-Grove Hill. Among those who turned out to hear Hammett was former House Speaker Joe C. McCorquodale of Jackson. McCorquodale served in the House from the 1960s through the 1980s and was speaker two terms.
Thomasville native and well known Alabama author and storyteller Kathryn Tucker Windham was honored in her hometown by Alabama Southern Community College. The occasion was the republication of her book, "Alabama: One Big Front Porch." The daylong event included storytelling and an old-fashioned southern dinner (the noon day meal, not supper).
