Student's story captures holiday spirit

Raven Allen and Mrs. Autry discuss "The Missing Star."
Mrs. Petra Autry's sixth grade reading class has been exploring their creativity through writing. Students wrote stories related to the Christmas holidays. Raven Allen captured the spirit of Christmas in her story "The Missing Star."
The Missing Star
By Raven Allen

Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Mike. Mike loved Christmas. His dad would always put up the Christmas tree. His mom would put all of the ornaments on, and Mike's job was to put the star on top. He loved his job!

Mike had a big sister named Shelly. She was very mean and didn't believe in Santa. She loved to pull pranks on Mike. So when the family started to put up the Christmas tree, they couldn't find the star. Shelly had thrown the star in the trash can.

Mike didn't get to do his job and put the star on top. Everyone searched and searched for the star, but they couldn't find it. Mike went upstairs to bed and he cried himself to sleep.

Later on, Mike heard a noise downstairs. He was so surprised when he saw Santa standing by the Christmas tree with a beautiful star in his hand! Santa told Mike that his sister had been a very naughty girl and that she had thrown the star away.

He gave Mike the new star to put on the tree. Mike felt so happy!

The next morning when Shelly came downstairs, she was surprised to see what was on top of the tree. A new star was sparkling on the tree. Shelly wanted to know where it came from. Mike told her that Santa gave it to him.

At first she didn't believe him, but when he told her that Santa had told him about the trash can situation, her mouth dropped. After that, Shelly promised that she would not play any more pranks on him again. Mike never told his parents. It was their little secret.
