The old cafeteria at Clarke County High School was demolished last week in preparation for the construction of a new band room on the site. The new CCHS building contains a new and modern cafeteria. Plans are also on the board to soon demolish the old CCHS building, constructed in 1936. The site will be developed into a parking lot. Some people have wondered if the old building could be saved but it looks like it is still on schedule to be torn down. See more on the new school on the CCHS school page inside. Photo by Barry H. Our Opinions
A new year is here and we are optimistic for Clarke County and the region. The new Louisiana- Pacific oriented strand board mill will start production soon, if it hasn't already. That will add approximately 140 permanent jobs through employment at the mill and should create other spinoff job opportunities. More...

This past week has been a little hectic with "the big move" approaching and the administering of exams, but it all went smoothly and everyone is eagerly anticipating the move into the new facility. The Clarke County High School Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs each captured the championships of their Holiday Tournament this past Saturday night in Grove Hill. The Lady Bulldogs beat the Lady Aggies of Jackson 53-39 in the title game before a packed house. More...
