William "Billy" Sadler Sr., 88, of Grove Hill died Jan. 12, 2008 at his residence.

He was born July 5, 1919 in Caledonia in Wilcox County. He was a member of the Thomasville United Methodist Church and the Grove Hill United Methodist Church. He had held numerous positions in the Thomasville United Methodist Church. He served two terms on the Thomasville City Council and also served as Mayor Pro Tem. He was former trustee for the Thomasville City Schools. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He had worked as a salesman.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Sadler, Grove Hill; two sons, William II "Herb" (Barbara) Sadler, Dothan, Barry R. (Judy) Sadler, Eufaula; a brother, Robert A. Sadler, Montgomery; a sister, Margaret S. Grubbs, Montgomery; a daughter-in-law, Becky Sadler, Monroeville; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; several nephews, nieces, and other relatives.

He is preceded in death by two sons, George L. Sadler and Robert C. Sadler.

A memorial service was Jan. 15 at 11 a.m. at Grove Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Dave Rhodes officiating. Burial was in the Whatley Cemetery. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home of Thomasville directed.

Active pallbearers were Bert Sadler, Stuart Sadler, Barry Sadler, Bradley Sadler, Jason Sadler and Jonathan Sadler.
