During the Tuesday, Feb. 26 meeting of the Jackson City Council, Public Works Director Kevin Woodson introduced the city's newest employee, Parks and Recreation Director DeWayne Byrd. Magnolia trees were being set out along the Highway 43 bypass this week and other landscaping and signage will also be done as part of a $167,000 beautification project along the bypass at the north and south ends of Jackson Street, and at the Cobb Street (Old Highway 84) and Highway 84 intersections. More ... This Allied Waste Services pickup, a Ford F150, collided with a Chevrolet SUV at the intersection of Highway 84 and Jackson Street in Grove Hill around 1:45 p.m. Monday. Jimmy Frazier was the driver of the Allied Waste vehicle and Linda Ann Tarver of Jackson was driving the Chevrolet. Neither person was said to be seriously injured but Jets Ambulances carried both to Jackson Medical Center, 15 miles away, even though the accident was within sight of Grove Hill Memorial Hospital.
