Getting the fields ready for play!
     Grove Hill Dixie Youth baseball and softball officials are gearing up for opening day this Saturday. Work has been done at each of the fields. At the top right photo Bubba Smith runs the tractor while making upgrades to the fields at the park. In the top right photo Gary Pickard runs the sod cutter. At the right Ricky Everett works on the fields at S.P. Hudson Park. There are 30 teams in the Grove Hill leagues this season and they will be using the facilities at Hudson Park from April 12 through July. There will be a parade to kick off all of the festivities that begins at 9 a.m. when the teams line-up. Teams will line-up on Church Street. The parade will run from DuBose Street. Then turn right on Jackson Street, then turn right on Cobb Street before turning left on Church Street to Hudson Park. The first games begin at 10:45 with Auburn playing the Orioles (coach-pitch) at Doc Mitchell Field; the Diamondbacks playing the Reds (11&12-year-old) at the John Becton Field; the Sharks playing the Bandits (T-Ball) at the Scotch Field; the Storm playing Wild Things (9 & 10-year-old softball) at the Sonny Gibson Field; and the Outlaws playing the Grasshoppers (T-Ball) on the old softball field. After that games will be played the rest of the day at each of the fields. There will be a field dedication ceremony during the opening day festivies as well. League officials urge everyone to come out and cheer the teams on as the season gets started. Photos by Amy Newton

Careful of what you might say
      Being one of those folks who always harp that people should get out and do something to help the community, I decided to heed my own words and…will now put myself in a position to be called a…wait for it…bonehead. I am going to umpire city league games.

CCHS Bulldogs down Citronelle 8-4
      The Clarke County High School Bulldogs beat the Wildcats of Citronelle 8-4 Monday afternoon on the road to run their record to 15-10. Hunter Cross went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI. Chris Andrews was 2-for-2 with three RBI. Tyler Walker went 2- for-4 with a pair of doubles. Bubba Frazier went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Josh Watford went 1-for- 4 with a double and an RBI.

CCHS to hold golf tourney
      The CCHS Lady Bulldogs will be hosting a fundraising golf tournament on Saturday, April 26 at Deerfield Country Club in Chatom. It is a 3-man scramble, with a cost of $150 per team. Hole in one prices will be available. Anyone wishing to enter call the school at 251-275-3368 or for more information.

Gators face MA Vols
      The Clarke Prep School Gators fought hard but came up short in a 6-3 loss to the Volunteers of Monroe Academy Tuesday afternoon in Grove Hill. Taylor Becton led the Gators at the plate as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Heath Bishop went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI. J.D. Powell went 1-for-3 with a double. Tanner Tucker was 1-for-3.

Ackerman's HR clinches win
      The Clarke Prep School Lady Gators got a big performance on the mound and a big swing to take a 5-3 area win over Monroe Academy Tuesday afternoon. Corrie Allen struck out 15 Lady Volunteers over seven inninsg of work. She walked six and allowed four hits.

     Clarke Prep School's J.D. Powell signed a scholarship to play baseball at Alabama Southern Tuesday morning. Lady Bulldogs fall to Mobile
      The Clarke County High School Lady Bulldogs lost 8-2 to Mobile Christian Monday night in Mobile. MeMe Martin went 2-for-3 with two doubles to lead CCHS at the plate. Brittney Harvell, Halie Moore and Ericka Williams each had a hit.

Moore signs hoops with JCJC
     Erica Moore, a point guard from Clarke County High School, signed a scholarship with Jones County Junior College Tuesday morning. Moore, seated center, is shown with her mother Lenora Moore and CCHS Coach Tori Johnson as JCJC Head coach Sandra Sumrall and assistant coach Cara Hyatt watch. Moore has been first team allstate in Class 3A two straight seasons and has scored more than 2,000 career points.
