Vera Coate Stringer, 88, of Coffeeville died May 9, 2008 at a Mobile hospital

She was born April 4, 1920. In her earlier years she was active in the RSVP. She was a member of the Clarke County Historical Society. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Coffeeville. She retired as a bookkeeper from Stringer Masonry Contractors.

Survivors include one son, Phillip Stringer, Coffeeville; one brother, Frank Robinson, Pensacola, Fla.; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

The service was May 13 at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Coffeeville with Rev. Roscoe C. Wentworth officiating. Burial was in the West Bend Cemetery in Coffeeville. Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directed.

Active pallbearers were Wendell Hodge, Prentice Stringer, Marthon Gimre, Walt Pope, Simeon Stringer and Charlie Latham.

Honorary pallbearers were Gene Guy, Darryl Harvey, Lloyd Wilson, Lundy Scruggs, Conway Dunagan and Vick Stringer.
