He was born Sept. 14, 1924 in Alma. He was a member of Jones Chapel Methodist Protestant Church. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired overseer of the Stimpson Properties at Choctaw Bluff in Clarke County.
Survivors include three sons, Elwood Overstreet Jr., Darrell Duane Overstreet, both of Jackson, Joe Frank Overstreet, Leroy; one daughter, Patricia O. Shipp, Prattville; four brothers, Ralph Overstreet, Ronnie Overstreet, Gerald Overstreet, all of Alma, C.W. Overstreet, Satsuma; two sisters, Voncile Echols, Jackson, Willine McDonald, Bessemer; brother-in-law, Bryant McDonald Jr., Jackson; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren.
The service was May 17 at 11 a.m. at the Jones Chapel Methodist Protestant Church with Rev. Reggie Smith officiating. Burial was in the Jones Chapel Methodist Protestant Cemetery. Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson directed.
