The average price for a gallon of regular gasoline in Alabama was $3.939, according to AAA as of June 30. The national average was $4.086 a gallon. An 18-wheeler jackknifed the afternoon of June 26 on Highway 84 East in the Gosport community. The driver, an employee of Hamrac Trucking of Monroeville, said the accident occurred because a vehicle two cars in front of him suddenly stopped to turn. A group has been working for several months now on the idea of a countywide animal shelter. There seems to be a lot of support for such a shelter to accommodate stray dogs and cats and it does seem like a good way to combat the problem and the potential problem of a rabies outbreak.
