Velma Ruth Nichols, 84, of Sweet Water died July 2, 2008 at Mobile Infirmary.
She was born Nov. 28, 1923. She was a member of Old Union Baptist Church. She was a homemaker.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. James Harold Nichols, Sweet Water; one son, Lanny (Vicki) Nichols, Georgiana; two daughters, Darlene (Stan) Littleton of Wrens, Ga., Sharon (Johnny) Rayborn, Brantley; two sisters, Kathleen Jowers, Doris Black, both of Sweet Water; nine grandchildren; four greatgrandchildren.
The service was July 5 at 11 a.m. at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with Rev. Bobby Hopper officiating. Burial was in Old Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Sweet Water.
Active pallbearers were Kinner Jowers, Ed Sheffield, Pitt Huckabee, Curtis Gates, Don Black and Perry McKinley.
Honorary pallbearers were Bobo Downey, Sid Pope, Bud Black, Andy Etheridge, John Summers and Dwayne Black.
Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the Old Union Baptist Church.
