Hospital blood drive today

The Grove Hill Memorial Hospital will have its bloodmobile Thursday, (today), July 24 from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. All donors who donated between May 1 and Sept. 5 will be entered in the drawing for a "Pond Prowler" boat. For more information contact Emily Steadham at 251-275-3191.

Alabama State Alumni to meet

The Clarke County Alumni Chapter of Alabama State University will be hosting its annual banquet Friday, July 25 at 7 p.m. at the Recreation Center in Jackson. For ticket information contact Anola Holly at 251-246-3036.

Fontaine family reunion

Descendants of the pioneer Fontaine family of Clarke County will gather Saturday, July 26. Activities will begin at 10 a.m. at the Choctaw Corner Cemetery near Thomasville with a military tribute by the Alabama Daughters of the War of 1812 honoring Alabama patriarch William Maury Fontaine, a sergeant in that war. The reunion will then continue with a lunch at the Helms House in Grove Hill followed by presentations devoted to the family history. MCHS planning reunion

Historial Society meets Sunday

The Clarke County Historical Society will meet at Grove Hill Town Hall Sunday, July 27 at 2:30 p.m. The guest speaker will be Claudia Campbell, a member of the board of the Fort Mims Restoration Association. Mrs. Campbell has been a re-enactor at the annual commemoration of the Battle of Burnt Corn and Battle of Fort Mims for the last 20 years. She will give a brief history of these events and tell more about the upcoming commemoration in August. The public is invited to attend.

Coffeeville Library Open House

The Coffeeville Public Library will hold Open House Sunday, July 27 from 2 until 4 p.m. The library is located in the old Town Hall on River Street.

VFW Post 5106 meets

VFW Post 5106 and its ladies auxiliary will have its regular monthly meeting Monday, July 28 at 7 p.m. All members are asked to be in attendance for the first meeting of the new physical year.

Film premiere July 28 in T'ville

The World Wide Deep South Premiere of Ron Harris' "20 Years After," will be held Monday, July 28 at the Thomasville Theatre.

There will be storytelling by Harris and Kathryn Tucker Windham, a showing of the film and a reception afterwards. (The film is not suitable for young children.) Tickets are $10 and available at the ALATOM RC&D office in Thomasville. Seating is limited.

Children's Summer Art Camp

Children's Summer Art Camp Registration The Grove Hill Arts Council and the Arts Council of Thomasville will sponsor a weeklong art camp at Grove Hill United Methodist Church for children ages 7-12 July 28-August 1. Children will meet Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. until 11:30. A variety of mediums and demonstrations will be presented. Mike Williamson will help students create "blockheads" from clay. Johnna Bush will focus on graphite sketching and use of color through the medium of pastels. There will be a reception and exhibit by participants on Friday. The $25 registration fee will be due the first day. Space is limited so contact Terry L. Norris at (251) 275-3816 by July 21 to register or for more information. This event is made possible by the Alabama State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment of the Arts.

GHBC Living Proof Live 2008

Grove Hill Baptist Church will sponsor its Living Proof Live 2008 Simulcast featuring internationally-acclaimed Bible teacher Beth Moore live via satellite with worship leader Travis Cottrell. The simulcast will begin Friday, Aug. 1 from 5:30 until 6:15 p.m. with supper and the conference will begin at 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. On Saturday, Aug. 2 breakfast will be held from 7:30 until 8:15 a.m. and the conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. until 12 p.m. Tickets are $35 and that includes the conference, meals and child care. Adams family reunion

The descendants of the late Willie and Betty Adams will be celebrating its family reunion Saturday, Aug. 2 and Sunday, Aug. 3. Saturday's activities will be held at the JAZZ activity center in Sweet Water and Sunday, worship services will be at the Independent Missionary Baptist Church in Sweet Water. Premiere to be held in T'ville

The Arts Council of Thomasville will present the musical "All Shook Up," featuring the music of Elvis Presley. This will be the premiere event of the newly renovated Thomasville Civic Center. Performances will be at 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 8, Saturday, Aug. 9 and a matinee at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 10. Tickets are general admission and will be $10 each.

Back To School block party

Grove Hill Baptist Church will sponsor a "Back To School Block Party" Saturday, Aug. 9 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be face painting, free food, inflatables, games and a contemporary Christian band, Broken Vessels, in concert. Recognition of local high school football teams, cheerleaders and bands will be made. 500 free backpacks will be given away. Bring your lawn chair and enjoy the evening.

Free reading program in July

Join "Catch the Reading Bug" this summer at the Grove Hill Public Library and discover the amazing world of insects. The 2008 Summer Reading Program is open to children, Kindergarten - 6th Grade. the program will be held every Wednesday in July at the library. Kindergarten-third Grade will meet from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. and fourth-sixth Grades will meet from 11 until 12 p.m. go by the library now to register and get your library card. If you are looking for Comprehensive Child Development Services for children ages 3-5 years, Coffeeville, Fulton, Harper Head Start and Coffeeville Pre-K is now accepting applications for 2008-2009.
