Vera D. "Becie" York, 99, died Aug. 8, 2008 at a local convalescent center in Eight Mile.
She was born Jan. 25, 1909. She was a native of Coffeeville. She was a long time member of Jones Chapel Church of Christ in Center Point. She was a charter member of the retired senior volunteer program. She helped start the senior center in Coffeeville. She was a homemaker most of her life.
Survivors include one son, Melvin E. York, Satsuma; four grandchildren, Michael E. (Sherry) York, Spanish Fort, Bonita York, Gulf Shores, Joel Hicks, Creola, Andy (Brenda) Hicks, Saraland; eight greatgrandchildren; one great-greatgrandchild.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mack C. York, Coffeeville and one daughter, Blanche Hicks, Satsuma.
The service was Aug. 11 at 12 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home Chapel in Jackson with Rev. Roy Hill officiating. Burial was in the Coffeeville Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Robert Williamson, Ivy Deas, Andy Hicks, Joel Hicks, Michael York and Emory Terry.
Honorary pallbearers were Maxie Byrd, Wallace Deas, Dustin Mizell, Dustin Hicks, James Coate and Kenneth Terry.
