Melva Claude Hudson, 87, of Thomasville died Sept. 8, 2008 at Providence Hospital in Mobile.
She was born Nov. 2, 1920, the tenth out of 11 children to Claude and Genie Hinson. She was affectionately known as "Granny" to all who knew her. She lived her entire life in the Dickinson-Peacock communities near Grove Hill. She was married to Wilmer Hudson for 26 years until his death in 1962. She was a lifelong member of Bassetts Creek Baptist Church and was known throughout the community as a caring Christian who deeply loved her family. She retired from Vanity Fair where she worked as a seamstress.
Survivors include three sons, Ray (Anne) Hudson, Monroeville, Paul (Kathy) Hudson, Beaverton, Oregon; Ralph (Janell) Hudson, Saraland; one daughter, Linda (Dwaine) Huggins, Mobile; two sisters, Mary Colen Hudson, 95, Thomasville, Vera "Nellie" Edge, 85, Jackson; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; family friend, Steve Hike who assisted in her care in her last years.
A wake was Wednesday, Sept. 10 from 5 until 8 p.m. at Lathan Funeral Home Chapel and a second visitation will be Thursday, (today), Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. followed by the service at 11 a.m. at Bassett Creek Baptist Church. Burial will be in the Bassett Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Bret Hudson, Bart Hudson, Brian Willbanks, Jeff Huggins, Mitchell Hudson and Paul Jackson.
