Charles Edward Maness, 69, of Hattiesburg, Miss. died Sept. 13, 2008 at Wesley Medical Center in Hattiesburg.

He was born Aug. 12, 1939 in Dixons Mills. He was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Hattiesburg. He was a retired safety director with Yates Construction Co.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine Maness, Hattiesburg, Miss.; two daughters, Lisa (Steve) Summitt, Florence, Ronda (Jeff) Vanderheiden, Hattiesburg, Miss.; one sister, Lenore (Dick) Irons, Thomasville; two grandchildren, Tyler Vanderheiden, Sara Vanderheiden, both of Hattiesburg, Miss.

The service was Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville with Rev. Phillip Craddock officiating. Burial was in the Choctaw Corner Cemetery in Thomasville.

Active pallbearers were Stan Dove, Dan Smith, Roy Carlisle, Wesley Dozier, John Doggett and Tyler Vanderheiden.

Honorary pallbearers were Johnny Doggett, Richard Pugh, George Pugh, Jack Bishop, Jerry Satchel, Byron Carlisle and Richard Ard.
