Robert Edward Downey, 81, of Sunflower died Sept. 12, 2008 at Washington County Hospital in Chatom.

He was born Aug. 30, 1927. He

had served as an

army sergeant military policeman in Germany and Austria. He retired from Olin Chemical Company.

Survivors include his wife, Rosalee Downey, Sunflower; one son, Larry Downey, Sunflower; one daughter, Diane (Bubba) Walker, Leroy; one brother, Dean (Reita) Downey, Sunflower; sisters, Frances, (Hubert) Turner, Albany, Ga., Lula (Ben) Knapp, Tibbie, Bonnie (Ray) Johnston, Ann (John) Seibert, all of Sunflower; two grandchildren; six greatgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Joanna Downey.

The service was Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at the Sunflower United Methodist Church with Rev. Steve Foster officiating. Burial was in the Sunflower United Methodist Church Cemetery. St. Stephens Funeral Home directed.

Active pallbearers were Michael Sullivan, Chris Foster, Lane Downey, Davey Lankford, Troy Lankford and Mike Dickey.
