Bessie Laiffette Poe, of Mobile died Sept. 6, 2008 at a local hospital.
She was a native of Gosport. She was employed for nearly 20 years as a mental health worker at Charter Hospital. She was a member of Holmes Street Baptist Church before her health failed. At church, she had been a member of the senior choir and the missions.
Survivors include her husband, Mitchell Poe, Mobile; five sons, Terry Poe, Ronald Poe, Curtis Poe, Louey Lord, all of Mobile, Mitchell Poe Jr., Corpus Christi, Texas; three daughters, Cynthia Poe, Deborah Poe, both of Mobile, Barbara Jean Laiffette, New York City; two sisters, Rose Dailey, Akron, Ohio, Autrey Ann Moore, Philadelphia, Miss.
The service was Sept. 13 at 11 a.m. at Holmes Street Baptist Church. Burial was in Pine Crest Cemetery. Hodge's Chapel on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue directed.
